Review of Projects Affecting State Owned or Leased National Register Properties

South Carolina law encourages state agencies and institutions to preserve National Register-listed properties they own or lease by establishing a consultation process with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The process is designed to incorporate historic preservation concerns with the needs of state projects. The SHPO is also charged with providing technical historic preservation training for state agency staff who are involved with the management of National Register properties.

The SHPO has prepared a fact sheet describing the law, Protection of State Owned or Leased Historic Properties, which you can read online.

Information about the National Register of Historic Places, including South Carolina’s National Register listings, is available on the SHPO website.
