Outreach & Assistance


The State Historic Preservation Office provides a variety of programs and services that help citizens and organizations protect historic properties.  These include:

  • Assistance to local governments through the Certified Local Government program, training for members of boards of architectural review, and technical assistance on local design review issues.
  • Lists of Preservation Professionals who meet the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualification Standards in History, Architectural History, Archaeology, and Historic Architecture.
  • The Preservation Awards to recognize exceptional accomplishments in partnership with the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation and the Governor's Office.
  • Resources for Building Owners include links to a variety of information useful in planning and carrying projects involving historic properties.
