Tillman Hall was constructed in 1892 by architects Bruce & Morgan. It was named for Benjamin Ryan Tillman who was a United States Senator and lifetime trustee of Clemson Agricultural College. The building is the most familiar landmark on the Clemson campus and was the place where desegregation of higher education occurred with the enrollment of Harvey Gantt on January 28, 1963. Tillman is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
